Love

An Epigram out of Plato

by Charles Goodall 1671–1689

From Poems and Translations (1689)

Love

I Lais! once a heavenly Whore!
But now those happy days are o'er!
Sweet Lais! Divine Lais! now no more.
This Looking-glass to Venus give,
My too true Representative:
Since what I am I would not see,
Since what I was I cannot be.
