Love

Nothing wanting to Love

by Robert Gould d. 1709?

From Poems, chiefly consisting of Satyrs (1689), Songs

Love

Yes, Silvia, I was told but now,
While on your Breast I lay
My Head, and thus obsequious bow,
I fool my Fame away;
That Glory while I thus do join
My Lips and glowing Cheeks to thine,
Starts wide, and cries, She'l ne're be mine.

Let the false World true Passion blame,
And Heav'ns best Gift despise;
I'de rather be the Fool I am,
Than, without Love, be wise:
Fame, Glory, and what e're we find
That captivates th' Ambitious mind,
I have 'em all, if thou art kind!
