Religion

Whate’er fate God’s given, take it!

by Hafiz c. 1315–1390

Translated by Edna Worthley Underwood (1917) · From Songs of Hafiz (1917)

Religion

Whate’er fate God’s given, take it!
Changeless is it. Naught can shake it.
If humble, always ’twill be so,
Past you all things great you’ll see go;
If Fate’s web is black like night
Not Mecca’s fount will wash it white.
