Social Commentaries

To my Reader

by Robert Heath fl. 1636–1659

From Clarastella (1650), Epigrams, Lib. 1

Social Commentaries

Wonder not why I humbly do not write,
Flatt'ring Encomium's to this Lord, that Knight
And each known friend, as hungry Poets use!
Mine is a substantive unpension'd Muse;
Nor e'r was hir'd to write an Epigram
In praise of this fool Lord, or that proud Dame.
