Enough of This Boasting
Translated by Alexander Chodzko (1842) · From Specimens of the Popular Poetry of Persia (1842)
Enough of this boasting. What are in my eyes thirty, sixty, or a hundred of your warriors? What are your rocks, your precipices, and deserts, under the hoof of my steed? In me you behold the leopard of the mountains and of the valleys.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
Codex Note
Roushan replies to the prince's offer of a command by answering his threats with a boast of his own power.
