Death & Dying
Consolation
From Heroic Idyls (1863)
Death & Dying
That mortal has imperfect trust
In God who thinks him only just.
God writes among his chosen few
Those who have loved and wept like you.
He numbers every tear they shed
Upon his last-born children dead.
