Book VI, 56
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. I, 1916)
Lenacoras, a vine-dresser, dedicated to Bacchus an ivy-crowned Satyr overloaded with wine. His head is nodding and you would say that everything in him is drunk, everything is unsteady, the fawnskin, his hair, the ivy, his eyes. Art with her mute moulding imitates even Nature, and Matter does not venture to oppose her.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
