Book VIII, Epigram 45 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
Terentius Priscus is given back to me, Flaccus, from Etna's shore: this day let a milk-white pearl mark! and let the wine-jar, shrunken through a hundred consulships, be outpoured, and its dullness grow bright, slowly strained through linen. When shall a night so fair again bless my board? When shall I be allowed to warm with wine so justly earned? When Cytherean Cyprus shall give thee, Flaccus, back to me, as good a cause shall arise for my revelry.
