Book IV, Epigram 23 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
While you were considering, Thalia, very carefully and long, which in your judgment was first, and which second, of the pair whom Greek epigTam has matched in rivalry, Callimachus of his own accord resigned the palm to eloquent Brutianus. Should he, cloyed with Attic wit, trifle with the Roman epigram, make me, I pray, second to him.
