Book VI, Epigram 3 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
Be born, thou name promised to Dardan lulus,' true scion of the gods; be born, illustrious boy, that thy sire, after long years have passed, may yield to thee everlasting reins of empire, and thou mayst sway the world in old age with one more aged still. Julia with her own snow-white finger shall draw thy golden threads, and spin for them all the fleece of Phryxus' ewe.
