Book VIII, Epigram 8 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
Albeit thou, Janus, givest their beginning to the flying years, and dost with thy visage renew the long ages, albeit pious incense invokes thee, prayers salute thee first, to thee the consul's joyous purple, to thee every magistrate pays court, yet this thou countest more — it has been thy fortune, Janus, in thine own month to see our god returning home!
