Love

Constant Love

by Meinloh von Sevelingen fl. c. 1150–1175

Translated by Frank C. Nicholson (1907) · From Old German Love Songs (1907)

Love

I am fain of a lady; right well do I know wherefore.
Since I began to serve her, she still hath pleased me more and more.
Dearer and ever dearer even with every day is she,
Fairer and ever fairer, and well, in sooth, she pleaseth me.
She is rich in all honour, high of worth, and sweet and true.
If I died in her service
And came to life thereafter, once more that lady I should woo!
