Love
Book V, 144
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. I, 1916)
Already the white violet is in flower and narcissus that loves the rain, and the lilies that haunt the hiliside, and already she is in bloom, Zenophila, love’s darling, the sweet rose of Persuasion, flower of the flowers of spring. Why laugh ye joyously, ye meadows, vainglorious for your bright tresses? More to be preferred than all sweet-smelling posies is she.
