Give me, O Lord, whate'er my lot may be

by John S. B. Monsell 1811–1875

From Parish Musings (1863)

Religion

Give me, O Lord, whate'er my lot may be,
A heart to look to, and to lean on Thee;
Teach me the thing that pleaseth Thee to do,
And make my life to my profession true.

Let me, my Saviour, on Thy breast recline,
Thy words my comfort, my devotion Thine;
My life's best joy Thy promises to prove, —
Trust in Thy Truth, and triumph in Thy Love.
