Social Commentaries
Book IX, 175
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. III, 1917)
I sett Callimachus and Pindar, and all the cases in the grammar, being myself a sore case of poverty, For Dorotheus has cut off the salary that supported me, sending this impious message of complaint against me. But, dear Theo, protect me, and do not let me end my days in conjunction with poverty.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
