by Sir Walter Scott 1771–1832

From Songs from the Waverley Novels (Poetical Works, Oxford 1904)

The abbot may sleep to their chime ;

There 's a herd on Shortwood Shaw ;
But a lily-white doe in the garden goes,
She 's fairly worth them a'.
