Living

Indifferent, but Indifferent

by Sir Walter Scott 1771–1832

From Songs from the Waverley Novels (Poetical Works, Oxford 1904)

Living

INDIFFERENT, but indifferent -- pshaw ! he doth it not
Like one who is his craft's master -- ne'ertheless
I have seen a clown confer a bloody coxcomb
On one who was a master of defence.
