Living

Here We Have One Head

by Sir Walter Scott 1771–1832

From Songs from the Waverley Novels (Poetical Works, Oxford 1904)

Living

HERE we have one head
Upon two bodies : your two-headed bullock
Is but an ass to such a prodigy.
These two have but one meaning, thought, and counsel ;
And when the single noddle has spoke out,
The four legs scrape assent to it.
