Riddle 7

by Carolyn Wells 1862–1942

From At the Sign of the Sphinx (Second Series)

Living

My first, although of use to men
Is scarcely worth a stiver;
But when a twin, it cannot then
Be managed by a driver.

My first ’s my second and my third,
A thread is wound around it;
I lost it once, and on my word,
’T was by my whole I found it.
