Living

Riddle 96

by Carolyn Wells 1862–1942

From At the Sign of the Sphinx (Second Series)

Living

The melancholy days have come, the saddest of the year;
There ’s not a flower on all the hills because my first is here.
And through the keen and wintry air I watch the leaves my last;
I shall not see my whole again until the winter ’s past.
