The Re-echo Club: as by James Hogg

by Carolyn Wells 1862–1942

From The Re-echo Club

Living

Lady of wandering,
Blithesome, meandering,
Sweet was thy flitting o'er moorland and lea;
Emblem of restlessness,
Blest be thy dwelling place,
Oh, to abide in the Pumpkin with thee.

Peter, though bland and good,
Never thee understood,
Or he had known how thy nature was free;
Goddess of fickleness,
Blest be thy dwelling place,
Oh, to abide in the Pumpkin with thee.

A parody by Carolyn Wells, written in the manner of James Hogg as a contribution to the imagined Re-Echo Club (Pumpkin Eater).
