Matthew: Ah, foolish man, who hears Thy word

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 10 (1871)

Religion

Ah, foolish man, who hears Thy word.
But doth not what Thy laws command,
Who fondly calls Thee Lamb, or Lord,
Till his house tumbles on the sand!
How infinite the ruin is
Of a lost soul, cut off from Thee!
He falls into the dark abyss,
He falls— to all eternity!
