Matthew 26: One that overwhelm'd with fear

Religion

One that overwhelm'd with fear
Dreads his suffering Lord to own,
Jesus' distant worshipper.
Dares he into danger run?
Who perceives his heart like mine.

Who his nature's weakness knows,
He the world will never join.
Never mix with Jesus' foes.
Power doth unto God belong:
God's own power, O Christ, Thou art:
Out of weakness make me strong.
By Thy dwelling in my heart:

Then I shall my Lord confess,
Close in all Thy footsteps press,
Gladly live and die with Thee.
