Luke 7:4: They besought Him instantly, saying, &c

Man magnifies the deeds of men,
With God the creature's merit pleads,
But all our thoughts by Christ are seen,
Our actions' spring and end He reads;
Strangers to evangelic grace,
The pompous works by sinners done
As works of charity they praise;
But Christ commends our faith alone.
