Acts 5:17: Then the high priest rose up, ami all they that, &c
From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 12 (1872)
Can priests with Sadducees agree,
With men who mock at heaven and hell?
Common their rage and enmity
Their bitter persecuting zeal
( Gainst all the ministers of grace
When Jesus gives His word success.
Who love to reign install'd on high,
For honour, power, and riches care,
And who an after state deny,
That growing truth they cannot bear
Which pomp pontifical destroys,
And tills us here with heavenly joys.
