Moses with the church abode
Travelling o'er the wilderness,
Heard the awful Angel-God
Uttering laws for all our race;
Christ the Father's Messenger,
God Himself with us abides,
Leads us by His Spirit here,
To the heavenly Canaan guides.
2515. Moses... received the lively oracles to give unto us. — vii. 8.
But the Antitype much more
Did the living words receive,
Words of energy and power,
Words which cause the dead to live:
Jesus, God's supreme Delight,
Thou hast heard His words above;
On the fleshly tables write,
Teach our hearts the law of love.
