2 Corinthians 4: I breathe my spirit wounded

by Charles Wesley 1707–1788

From Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures (1762) · Osborn ed., vol. 13 (1872)

Religion

I breathe my spirit wounded
In bleeding sympathy,
I bow with clouds surrounded,
I die, my Lord, like Thee.

O'er sin and death victorious,
Who share Thy mortal pain,
In bliss divinely glorious
Are sure with Thee to reign.
Thy dead revived shall praise Thee,
This body too shall rise;
And I fly up to' embrace Thee,
My Saviour, in the skies.
Alway delivered unto death, for Jesus sake.—iv. V1.
LorD, is it for Thy sake that I
Am always at the point to die?
Then let the word on me take place,
And manifest Thy life of grace;
And when Thee in the clouds I see,
Reveal Thy glorious life in me.
