Gruffudd Gryg

fl. second half of the 14th century

Gruffudd Gryg was an Anglesey bard of the second half of the fourteenth century, a contemporary of Dafydd ap Gwilym with whom he exchanged a famous poetic controversy that ended in an elegy each wrote for the other.

The poem here is a free English version after him, taken from George Borrow's Wild Wales and printed in Welsh Poems and Ballads (1915).
