Lewis Morris

1701–1765

Lewis Morris (Llewelyn Ddu o Fôn, 1701–1765) was an Anglesey poet and scholar, a leading figure in the eighteenth-century revival of Welsh letters and the patron and friend of Goronwy Owen.

The poem here is George Borrow's English version of a Welsh song of Merioneth, from Borrow's manuscripts, printed in Welsh Poems and Ballads (1915).
