Llywarch Hen

fl. 6th century (legendary)

Llywarch Hen (Llywarch the Aged) is a legendary sixth-century prince of the Men of the North, remembered in Welsh tradition for his long old age and the loss of his sons in war. Poems in his persona are found in the Red Book of Hergest (about 1400) and were written down long after the age they portray.

The poems here are those W. F. Skene groups as poems attributed to Llywarch Hen in The Four Ancient Books of Wales (1868), in the translation of the Rev. D. Silvan Evans. The attribution is traditional.
