Frederick Locker-Lampson

1821–1895

Frederick Locker-Lampson (1821–1895), known as Frederick Locker for most of his writing life, was an English poet. Born at Greenwich Hospital, he worked as a clerk in the Admiralty and published London Lyrics in 1857, a slim volume of polished society verse that he went on revising and enlarging through many later editions.

His light, graceful, gently ironical manner is often set beside that of Praed. The poems here come from the 1904 Methuen edition of London Lyrics (the early pieces of 1857) and from a selection of his works printed by Edward Moxon in 1865.
