Nef'î

d. 1635

Nef'i, of Erzurum, was the greatest poet of the reign of Murad IV; his book of satirical verses, the Siham-i Qaza, The Shafts of Fate, brought on him the Sultan's anger.

The poems here are taken from E. J. W. Gibb's Ottoman Poems (1882), the first English verse translations of Ottoman poetry; dates and biographical details follow Gibb's Biographical Notices.
