Joseph Skipsey
Joseph Skipsey (1832–1903) was an English poet from Northumberland who went down the pit as a child and worked as a miner for years. His lyrics were praised by Victorian critics and collected in Carols from the Coal-Fields (1886) and other volumes.
The songs given here are taken from Edmund H. Garrett's anthology Victorian Songs: Lyrics of the Affections and Nature (Boston: Little, Brown, 1895).
