fl. c. AD 740–770

Yüan Chieh was a contemporary of Li Po and flourished about AD 740–770. Waley notes that he had not before been mentioned in any European book, and translates two of his poems.

The poems here are Arthur Waley’s versions in A Hundred and Seventy Chinese Poems (1918), given with the poet’s name as spelled in those books.

  1. Stone Fish Lake
  2. Civilization
  3. To the Tax-Collectors After the Bandits' Retreat
