The Wasps

A comedy first produced at Athens in 422 BC

by Aristophanes

Translated by Benjamin Bickley Rogers (1924)

Philocleon, an old Athenian addicted to sitting on juries, is kept shut up at home by his son Bdelycleon, who tries to cure him by holding a mock trial in the house (the dog Labes is charged with stealing a cheese) and by teaching him the manners of a gentleman, with riotous results.
