Prometheus Bound

by Aeschylus

Translated by E. D. A. Morshead (1908)

For giving fire to mortals against the will of Zeus, the Titan Prometheus is nailed to a crag in the Scythian wastes by Strength and Force, while a reluctant Hephaestus does the work. Visited by the sea-nymphs, by Oceanus and by the wandering, cow-horned Io, he foretells the fall of Zeus, until Hermes comes to demand the secret and the rocks collapse upon him.
