Social Commentaries
Book XI, 350
Translated by W. R. Paton (1916–18) · From The Greek Anthology (Loeb, vol. IV, 1918)
Foot, how hast thou failed to notice the balance of Justice and dost not know the sentence due to impious men! Thou trustest in thy subtle rhetoric and thy trained mind, which knows how to utter a fallacious argument. Thou mayest hope if thou wilt, but the play of thy vain fancy cannot change Themis.
This translation is printed as prose in its source edition.
