Living

A Dilemma

by Anonymous Chinese nursery rhymes traditional (collected in Peking, 1890s)

Translated by Isaac Taylor Headland (1900) · From Chinese Mother Goose Rhymes (1900)

Living

Hard worm beans
Without any bother,
A wife he has married
And doesn't want his mother.
He must leave his mother,
Or quarrel with his wife,
And thus they are separated
All their life.
