The Mind
Be ware, squier, yeman, and page
From Early English Lyrics (1907)
Be ware, squier, yeman, and page,
For servise is none eritage!
If thou serve a lord of prise,
Be not too boistous in thine servise,
Damne not thine soule in none wise,
For servise is none eritage.
Winteres wether and wommanes thought
And lordés lové chaungeth oft.
This is the sothe, if it be sought,
For servise is none eritage.
Now thou art grete, tomorwe schall I,
As lordés chaungen here baly;
In thine welthe werk sekerly,
For servise is none eritage.
Than serve we God in allé wise;
He schall us quiten our servise,
And yeven us giftés most of prise,
Hevene to ben our eritage!
