The Mind
Sinful man, for Godés sake
From Early English Lyrics (1907)
Sinful man, for Godés sake,
I rede that thou amendés make.
Thow thou be king of tour and town,
Thow thou be king and were coroun,
I sette right not be thy renown,
But if thou wilt amendés make.
That thou hast here is othere menes,
And so it schall ben whan thou art hennes;
Thy soulé schall abeye thy sinnes,
But if thou wilt amendés make.
Thow thou be bothé stef and strong,
And many a man thou hast do wrong,
‘Wellaway’ schall be thy song,
But if thou wilt amendés make.
Man, be ware, the weye is sleder!
Thou schal slide thou wost not wheder;
Body and soule schul go togeder,
But if thou wilt amendés make.
Man, bere not thy hed too heye,
In pumpe and pride and velonie!
In helle thou schalt ben hangéd hie,
But if thou wilt amendés make.
