Social Commentaries

To the Lord Uerulam

by Thomas Bancroft fl. 1633–1658

From Two Bookes of Epigrammes, and Epitaphs (1639), Book I

Social Commentaries

Had I a tongue of all Frier Bacons brasse,
Which should (they say) have wal'd this Iland round,
I scarcely could how deepe thy knowledge was,
With all the strength of such an Organ sound
Fame cannot do't, her trumpet it would split:
Why then should words blow wind on such a wit?
