Epigram 36 (Tell Festus that this mirth and iollitie,)
From Chrestoleros (1598), Book 5
Tell Festus that this mirth and iollitie,
These suts these feasts, this daily flocking to him,
This gameling and this wanton luxurie,
This carelessenesse, this free heart will vndoe him
He cannot heare, his wits are not his owne,
But his sweete fortunes, whose commaund is such,
That Festus senses quite are ouerthrowne,
Since she gaue him of hers, a little too much.
Then why aduise you him? let it suffice,
That he doth that himselfe must make him wise.
