A Paradox of Doomes day

by Sir John Harington 1560–1612

From The Most Elegant and Witty Epigrams (1618), Book 1

Social Commentaries

SOme Doctors deeme the day of Doome drawes neere:
But I can proue the contrary most cleere,
For at that day our Lord and Sauiour saith,
That he on earth shall scant finde any faith,
But in these daies it cannot be denyde,
All boast of onely faith and nought beside:
But if you seeke the fruit thereof by workes,
You shall finde many better with the Turkes.
