Against Lesbia, both for her patience and impatience

by Sir John Harington 1560–1612

From The Most Elegant and Witty Epigrams (1618), Book 1

Social Commentaries

LEsbia, I heard, how ere it came to passe,
That when old Pleus call'd thy Lord an Asse,
You did but smile; but when he cald him Oxe,
Straight-waies you curst him with all plagues & pox.
There is some secret cause why you allow
A man to scorne his braine, but not his brow.
