To the Reader

by Robert Heath fl. 1636–1659

From Clarastella (1650), Epigrams, Lib. 1

Social Commentaries

Reader! my Muse thinks not as beggars do,
Boldly with importunitie to wooe
A farthing worth of praise, no: her desire
Is only, passing, that you'd look on her.
She proudly says on alms she scorns to live:
And as good as you bring she back wil give.
