Love

As lamps burn silent with unconscious light

by Aaron Hill 1685–1750

From Lyra Elegantiarum, ed. Frederick Locker (London: E. Moxon, 1867)

Love

As lamps burn silent with unconscious light.
So modest ease in beauty shines most bright,
Unaiming charms with edge resistless fall,
And she who means no mischief does it all.
