Aaron Hill

1685–1750

Aaron Hill (1685–1750) was an English dramatist, poet and projector, a patron of younger writers and a correspondent of Pope and Richardson. His verse was collected in his Works (1753).

The poem here is the one printed under his name in Frederick Locker's Lyra Elegantiarum (London: E. Moxon, 1867), an anthology of vers de société and vers d'occasion by deceased authors; the texts follow that first edition.
