Love

A Song of the Southern River

by Li I d. AD 827

Translated by Witter Bynner and Kiang Kang-hu (1929) · From The Jade Mountain (1929)

Love

Since I married the merchant of Ch'ü-t'ang
He has failed each day to keep his word. . . .
Had I thought how regular the tide is,
I might rather have chosen a river-boy.
