On Hearing a Flute at Night from the Wall of Shou-hsiang

by Li I d. AD 827

Translated by Witter Bynner and Kiang Kang-hu (1929) · From The Jade Mountain (1929)

History & Politics

And the moon like frost beyond the city-wall,
And someone somewhere, playing a flute,
Has made the soldiers homesick all night long.
