Book III, Epigram 66 (Ker)
Translated by Walter C. A. Ker (1919–20) · From Epigrams (Loeb, 1919–20)
A crime equal to that of Egypt's armed hand Anton ius wrought; this steel and that destroyed H sacred life." That head, O Rome, was thine when thou didst with joy lead on thy laurelled triumphs; this was thine when thou wert speaking. Yet could Antonius plead worse excuse than Pothinus: he by his deed served his master, Antonius himself.
